Conventions of Standard English
3L2. Demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. Core Punctuation and Spelling Skills for Grades 3→5:
3L2.9. Use conventional spelling for high-frequency and other studied words, and to add suffixes to base words (e.g., sitting, smiled, cries, happiness).
Vocabulary Acquisition and Use
3L4. Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases based, choosing flexibly from a range of strategies.
3L4b. Determine the meaning of the new word formed when a known affix is added to a known word (e.g., agreeable/disagreeable, comfortable/ uncomfortable, care/careless, heat/preheat).
