Washington DC Standards. What do plants need to grow? A plant needs: water, air, sunlight and room. How does a plant grow? A seed comes from an adult plant and falls to the ground. Once in the ground, a seed begins to grow in the soil. Roots grow from a seed down into the ground. A young plant grows up through the soil. Parts of a Plant: Roots, Stem, Leaves, Flower.
