Western Region US
South Dakota Standards. The eleven states that make up the Western Region are Alaska, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming and Hawaii. The region stretches thousands of miles from Hawaii to Colorado.

SD.5.E. Economics: Students will understand the impact of economics on the development of societies and on current and emerging national and international situations.
5.E.1. Analyze the role and relationships of economic systems on the development, utilization, and availability of resources in societies.
5.E.1.3. (Comprehension) Students are able to describe key economic events prior to 1865 leading to the expansion of territories in the United States (Examples: Dakota Territory, Louisiana Purchase, Indian Removal Acts, Gold Rush).
