Gases
Gases are one of the three common states of matter, along with solids and liquids. They have unique properties that distinguish them from the other states of matter.
Properties of Gases

- Combined Gas Law: Combines Boyle's, Charles's, and Gay-Lussac's laws into a single equation that relates the pressure, volume, and temperature of a gas.
- Ideal Gas Law: Describes the behavior of an ideal gas using the equation PV = nRT, where P is pressure, V is volume, n is the number of moles, R is the gas constant, and T is temperature.
Gas Behavior
Gases exhibit specific behavior under different conditions:
- Diffusion and Effusion: Gases diffuse and effuse at different rates, based on their molar masses and temperature.
- Gas Stoichiometry: The relationships between the amounts of reactants and products in chemical reactions involving gases can be determined using the principles of stoichiometry.
- Gas Mixtures: Gases can be mixed together, and their individual pressures can be calculated using Dalton's law of partial pressures.
Real Gases and Deviations
Real gases deviate from ideal gas behavior at high pressures and low temperatures due to the interactions between gas particles.
