Functions of Loose Connective Tissue:
The matrix of loose connective tissue is composed of collagen and elastic fibers, which are embedded in a gel-like ground substance. This ground substance contains water, glycoproteins, and glycosaminoglycans, providing a medium for nutrient exchange and support. The cells present in this tissue, such as fibroblasts, macrophages, and adipocytes, are scattered throughout the matrix.
