Veins are an important part of the circulatory system in the human body. They are blood vessels that carry blood back to the heart. Unlike arteries, veins carry blood at a lower pressure.
Veins have a thinner wall compared to arteries. They also have valves that help prevent the backflow of blood. The valves open to allow blood to flow towards the heart and then close to prevent it from flowing backwards.
The main function of veins is to transport deoxygenated blood back to the heart and lungs to get re-oxygenated. Once the blood is oxygenated, it is pumped back out to the body through the arteries.
1. Draw a diagram of the circulatory system and label the veins.
2. Role-play the circulation of blood through the veins, heart, and lungs with a friend.
