Gas is one of the three common states of matter, along with solid and liquid. It is characterized by its ability to fill the shape of any container it is placed in, as well as its low density and ability to be compressed. Understanding the properties and behaviors of gases is an important part of studying chemistry and physics.
Properties of Gases
Gases have several important properties:
Expansion: Gases have no definite shape or volume and will expand to fill the entire space available to them.
Compressibility: Gases can be easily compressed into a smaller volume by applying pressure.
Diffusion: Gases will naturally and evenly spread out to fill the available space.
