Solar Eclipse

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, obscuring the Sun's light and casting a shadow on the Earth. There are a few different types of solar eclipses, including total, partial, and annular eclipses.

Types of Solar Eclipses

Total Solar Eclipse: When the Moon completely covers the Sun, casting a shadow on the Earth.
Partial Solar Eclipse: When the Moon only partially covers the Sun, creating a partial shadow on the Earth.
Annular Solar Eclipse: When the Moon is farthest from the Earth and does not completely cover the Sun, resulting in a ring of sunlight around the Moon.

Phases of a Solar Eclipse

A solar eclipse occurs in several phases:

Partial Eclipse: The Moon begins to move in front of the Sun, creating a partial shadow on the Earth.
Total Eclipse: The Moon completely covers the Sun, creating a period of darkness on the Earth.
Partial Eclipse: The Moon moves away from in front of the Sun, creating another period of partial shadow on the Earth.

Observing a Solar Eclipse

It's important to use proper eye protection when observing a solar eclipse, as looking directly at the Sun can cause permanent eye damage. Special solar viewing glasses or viewers are recommended to safely observe a solar eclipse.
