What is Exocytosis?

Exocytosis is the process by which cells actively transport molecules, such as proteins and lipids, from the interior of the cell to the external environment. This is achieved through the fusion of vesicles, which contain the molecules to be transported, with the plasma membrane of the cell.

Steps of Exocytosis

Vesicle Formation: Molecules to be transported are packaged into vesicles within the cell's cytoplasm.
Vesicle Transport: The vesicles are transported towards the cell membrane along the cytoskeleton.
Vesicle Docking: The vesicles dock at specific sites on the plasma membrane, facilitated by protein interactions.
