Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun and the largest in the Solar System. It is a gas giant with a mass one-thousandth that of the Sun but is two and a half times the mass of all the other planets in the Solar System combined.
Jupiter has a distinct appearance, with its bands of clouds and the Great Red Spot, a giant storm that has been raging for at least 400 years. It also has the largest number of moons in the Solar System, with at least 79 known moons.
The atmosphere of Jupiter is primarily composed of hydrogen and helium, with traces of other compounds. The thick atmosphere gives Jupiter its characteristic striped appearance.
