Abbreviations
An abbreviation is a shortened form of a word or phrase. It is used to represent the complete form in a more concise manner. Abbreviations are commonly used in writing, especially in formal documents, to save space and simplify text.
Types of Abbreviations
There are two main types of abbreviations: acronyms and initialisms.
- Acronyms: Acronyms are formed by using the initial letters of a phrase or a series of words to create a new word. For example, NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) are both acronyms.
