Nasals
Nasals are a type of consonant sound produced by allowing air to flow through the nose. In English, the nasals are /m/, /n/, and /ŋ/ (as in "sing").
Characteristics of Nasals
- Nasals are produced by obstructing the airflow in the oral cavity and allowing the air to escape through the nose.
- They are voiced sounds, which means the vocal cords vibrate during their production.
- Nasals can be found at the beginning, middle, or end of words.
Examples of Nasal Sounds
/m/: man, hammer, jump
/n/: net, running, finger
/ŋ/: sing, bring, think
