Perpendicular Lines

In geometry, two lines are said to be perpendicular if they intersect at a right angle (90 degrees). This means that the lines form four right angles where they meet.

The symbol for perpendicular lines is ⊥ (an upside-down capital T).

Example:

Consider the lines AB and CD. If AB is perpendicular to CD, it would be written as AB ⊥ CD.

Properties of Perpendicular Lines:

• Perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals of each other. If the slope of one line is m, the slope of the perpendicular line would be -1/m.
• When two lines are perpendicular, their product of slopes is -1.
