Temperature
Temperature is a measure of how hot or cold something is. It is a fundamental concept in science and everyday life.
Scales of Temperature
There are three common scales for measuring temperature:
- Celsius (°C): The Celsius scale is based on the freezing and boiling points of water, where 0°C is the freezing point and 100°C is the boiling point at standard atmospheric pressure.
- Fahrenheit (°F): The Fahrenheit scale is also based on the freezing and boiling points of water, but uses different reference points. 32°F is the freezing point and 212°F is the boiling point.
- Kelvin (K): The Kelvin scale is an absolute temperature scale where 0K is absolute zero, the lowest possible temperature. Absolute zero is equivalent to -273.15°C.
Measuring Temperature
Temperature can be measured using various instruments such as thermometers, thermistors, and infrared thermometers. These instruments provide numerical values representing the temperature in the chosen scale.
Applications
Temperature measurement is crucial in many fields including weather forecasting, cooking, healthcare, and industrial processes. Understanding temperature helps us make informed decisions and maintain comfortable and safe environments.

They develop their understanding of numbers by building their facility with mental computation (addition and subtraction in special cases, such as 2,500 + 6,000 and 9,000 - 5,000), by using computational estimation, and by performing paper-and-pencil computations.
