Cones
A cone is a three-dimensional geometric shape that has a circular base and tapers to a point called the apex or vertex. The distance from the apex to the base is the height of the cone.
Parts of a Cone:
- Base: The circular bottom of the cone.
- Apex/Vertex: The point at the top of the cone.
- Height: The distance from the base to the apex.
- Slant Height: The distance from the apex to any point on the perimeter of the base.
Formulas for Cones:
The surface area (A) and volume (V) of a cone can be calculated using the following formulas:
- Surface Area (A): A = πr(r + l), where r is the radius of the base and l is the slant height.
- Volume (V): V = (1/3)πr²h, where r is the radius of the base and h is the height.
Cones are commonly found in various objects, such as ice cream cones, traffic cones, and conical roofs of buildings.
