Symmetry
Symmetry is a concept in math that refers to the balanced and proportional arrangement of parts on opposite sides of a line, shape, or object. When an object is symmetrical, it means that one half is a mirror image of the other half.
There are different types of symmetry:
- Line Symmetry: Also known as reflection symmetry, it is when one half of an image is the mirror image of the other half. The line that divides the shape into two equal parts is called the line of symmetry.
- Rotational Symmetry: This type of symmetry occurs when a shape can be rotated less than a full circle and still look the same at certain angles.
- Point Symmetry: A shape has point symmetry when it looks the same after being rotated 180 degrees around a central point.
Symmetry is an important concept in geometry and is commonly found in nature, art, and architecture.
