Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards

MD.MA.4.NBT. Number and Operations in Base Ten (NBT)
4.NBT.A. Generalize place value understanding for multi-digit whole numbers.
4.NBT.A.1. Major Standard: Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For example, recognize that 700÷70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division.
4.NBT.A.1.1. Ability to extend knowledge of place value from prior grades (2.NBT.A.1-4, 3.NBT.A.3).
4.NBT.A.1.3. Ability to reason and explain the magnitude of the digits in a number, for example: How is the 8 in the number 685 similar or different to the number 8 in 658.
4.NBT.A.2. Major Standard: Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
4.NBT.A.2.1. Ability to flexibly read and write different number forms: base ten numerals (285), extended form (200+80+5), written form (two hundred eight-five).
