Thermosphere

The thermosphere is the layer of the Earth's atmosphere located above the mesosphere and below the exosphere. It extends from about 80 km (50 miles) to about 700 km (430 miles) above the Earth's surface. The thermosphere is named for its temperature, which can reach up to 2000°C (3600°F) or higher due to the absorption of solar radiation.
