Rounding

Rounding is a mathematical process used to simplify numbers to a certain degree of accuracy. This is typically done to make calculations more manageable or to represent numbers in a more user-friendly format.

Rules for Rounding

To round a number to a certain place value, follow these general rules:1. Identify the digit in the place value to which you are rounding. 2. Look at the digit to the right of the identified digit. 3. If the digit to the right is 5 or greater, round the identified digit up by 1. If the digit is 4 or less, leave the identified digit unchanged.

Example

Let's say you have the number 36.78 and you want to round it to the nearest whole number.- The digit in the ones place is 6, and the digit to the right of it is 7. - Since 7 is greater than 5, we round the 6 up to 7. - Therefore, 36.78 rounded to the nearest whole number is 37.
