Octagon
An octagon is a polygon with eight sides and eight angles. The word "octagon" is derived from the Greek words "octa" meaning eight and "gonia" meaning angle.
Properties of an octagon:
- It has eight straight sides of equal length.
- It has eight interior angles, each measuring 135 degrees.
- The sum of the interior angles of an octagon is 1080 degrees.
- It can be regular (all sides and angles are equal) or irregular (sides and/or angles are not equal).
Formulas for the perimeter and area of a regular octagon:
Perimeter = 8 * side length
Area = 2 * (1 + √2) * side length^2
In real life, octagonal shapes can be found in stop signs, some architecture, and decorative designs.
