Square
A square is a special type of rectangle in which all four sides are of equal length and all four angles are right angles. This means that a square has the following characteristics:
- All sides are equal in length
- All angles are right angles (90 degrees)
- The diagonals are of equal length and bisect each other at right angles
- The perimeter of a square is the sum of all four sides: P = 4s (where s is the length of one side)
- The area of a square is given by: A = s2 (where s is the length of one side)
Furthermore, a square can be described as a regular quadrilateral, meaning that it has all sides and angles congruent. Its properties make it a fundamental shape in geometry and it is commonly found in various real-world applications, such as in architecture, tiling, and engineering.
