Gamma rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation, similar to X-rays and light, but with much higher energy and shorter wavelength. They are produced by the most energetic events in the universe, such as the explosions of supernovae and the decay of radioactive atoms. Gamma rays are also emitted by some nuclear reactions and can be produced artificially in nuclear reactors and particle accelerators.
