Pan troglodytes, commonly known as the common chimpanzee, is a species of great ape native to the forests and savannas of tropical Africa. They are one of the two species in the genus Pan, the other being the bonobo (Pan paniscus).
Chimpanzees are listed as endangered due to habitat loss, poaching, and disease. Conservation efforts are focused on protecting their natural habitats and preventing illegal trade in chimpanzee products.
