Deposition
Definition:
Deposition is the process by which sediments, soil, and rocks are added to a landform or landmass.
Causes of Deposition:
- Decreased energy: When the energy of the transporting medium (such as water or wind) decreases, it can no longer carry the sediments, leading to their deposition.
- Changing conditions: Changes in temperature, pressure, or other environmental conditions can cause particles to settle out of their transporting medium.
- Biological activity: Organisms, such as corals and mollusks, can contribute to the deposition of calcium carbonate and other materials.
Examples of Deposition:
Examples of deposition include the formation of river deltas, the accumulation of sediment at the bottom of a lake, and the settling of dust particles carried by the wind.
