The Earth's surface is divided into seven large landmasses called continents. Each continent has its own unique geography, climate, and culture.

North America

Located in the northern hemisphere, North America is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the west, and South America to the south.

South America

South America is located in the southern hemisphere and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the Pacific Ocean to the west, North America to the north, and the Drake Passage to the south.

Europe is a continent located entirely in the northern hemisphere and mostly in the eastern hemisphere. It is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, and Asia to the east.

Asia

Asia is the largest continent and is located in the eastern and northern hemispheres. It is bordered by the Arctic Ocean to the north, the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Indian Ocean to the south, and Europe and Africa to the west.

Africa

Africa is the second largest continent and is located in the eastern hemisphere. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, and Asia to the northeast.

Australia

Australia is the smallest continent and is located entirely in the southern hemisphere. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Indian Ocean to the west, and the Southern Ocean to the south.

Antarctica

Antarctica is the southernmost continent and is located almost entirely within the Antarctic Circle. It is surrounded by the Southern Ocean and is covered in ice.

Oceans

The Earth's surface is also covered by five major interconnected bodies of saltwater, known as oceans.

Pacific Ocean

The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest ocean on Earth, covering more than 60 million square miles. It borders Asia and Australia to the west, and the Americas to the east.

Atlantic Ocean

The Atlantic Ocean is the second largest ocean and separates the Americas from Europe and Africa. It covers approximately 41 million square miles.

Indian Ocean

The Indian Ocean is the third largest ocean and is located between Africa, Asia, Australia, and the Indian subcontinent. It covers about 27 million square miles.

Southern Ocean(Antarctic Ocean)

The Southern Ocean is the newest of the world's oceans and is the fourth largest. It surrounds Antarctica and is the only ocean to touch three others - the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans.

Arctic Ocean

The Arctic Ocean is the smallest and shallowest of the world's oceans, covering about 5.4 million square miles. It is located in the northern hemisphere and is almost completely covered by ice for much of the year.
