CE.8.a. Describing the structure and powers of the local government.
CE.8.b. Explaining the relationship of local government to the state government.
CE.8.c. Explaining and/or simulating the lawmaking process.
CE.9. The student will apply social science skills to understand the judicial systems established by the Constitution of Virginia and the Constitution of the United States by:
CE.9.a. Describing the organization of the United States judicial system as consisting of state and federal courts with original and appellate jurisdiction.

GOVT.8. The student will apply social science skills to understand the organization and powers of the state and local governments described in the Constitution of Virginia by:
GOVT.8.a. Examining the legislative, executive, and judicial branches.
GOVT.8.b. Examining the structure and powers of local governments (county, city, and town).
GOVT.8.c. Analyzing the relationship between state and local governments and the roles of regional authorities, governing boards, and commissions.
GOVT.9. The student will apply social science skills to understand the process by which public policy is made by:
GOVT.9.a. Defining public policy and determining how to differentiate public and private action.
GOVT.9.d. Describing how the state and local governments influence the public agenda and shape public policy.
GOVT.9.e. Investigating and evaluating the process by which policy is implemented by the bureaucracy at each level.
