In biology, tissues are groups of similar cells that work together to perform a specific function. There are four main types of tissues in the human body: epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissues.
Epithelial tissue covers the body surfaces, lines body cavities, and forms glands. It is composed of tightly packed cells with little to no extracellular matrix.
Connective tissue provides support and structure to the body. It consists of cells, fibers, and a matrix.
Muscle tissue is responsible for movement and generating force. It is made up of muscle fibers that contract in response to nerve signals.
Nervous tissue is composed of neurons and support cells. It is involved in the transmission of electrical signals and the integration of sensory input.
