What is Subtraction?
Subtraction is the mathematical operation of finding the difference between two
numbers
. It is the process of taking one number away from another.
Key Vocabulary
Minuend: The number from which another number is to be subtracted.
Subtrahend: The number that is to be subtracted from the minuend.
Difference: The result of a subtraction operation.
How to Perform Subtraction
Subtraction is performed by subtracting the subtrahend from the minuend to find the difference.For example:
7 - 3 = 4
In this example, 7 is the minuend, 3 is the subtrahend, and 4 is the difference.

There are several strategies that can be used to perform subtraction. Some common strategies include:
