Understanding Seconds

Seconds are a unit of time measurement in the International System of Units (SI). They are used to measure short durations of time, and are defined as the duration of 9,192,631,770 periods of the radiation corresponding to the transition between two hyperfine levels of the ground state of the cesium 133 atom.

Conversion

1 second is equal to 1/60 minute or 1/3600 hour. To convert seconds to minutes, you can divide the number of seconds by 60. To convert seconds to hours, you can divide the number of seconds by 3600.

Usage

Seconds are commonly used for measuring the duration of events, the speed of objects, and for expressing time in digital clocks and watches.
