Earth
The Earth is the third planet from the Sun and is the only known planet to support life. It is also the fifth largest planet in the Solar System.
Structure of the Earth
The Earth is composed of several layers:
- Crust: The outermost layer of the Earth. It is relatively thin and is made up of solid rock.
- Mantle: The layer beneath the crust. It is composed of solid rock that can flow over long periods of time.
- Outer Core: The layer beneath the mantle. It is made up of molten iron and nickel.
- Inner Core: The innermost layer of the Earth. It is a solid ball composed of iron and nickel.
Earth's Atmosphere
The Earth's atmosphere is composed of several layers:
- Troposphere: The lowest layer where weather occurs.
- Stratosphere: The layer above the troposphere, where the ozone layer is located.
- Mesosphere: The layer above the stratosphere, where meteors burn up upon entering the atmosphere.
- Thermosphere: The layer where the International Space Station orbits.
- Exosphere: The outermost layer where the atmosphere merges with outer space.
Earth's Movement
The Earth has several movements:
- Rotation: The Earth rotates on its axis, causing day and night.
- Revolution: The Earth revolves around the Sun, causing the change of seasons.
- Precession: The Earth's axis wobbles like a spinning top, completing a full cycle approximately every 26,000 years.
