Dear First Grader,
Today, we are going to learn about a unit of time called "hours." An hour is a way we measure time. It helps us know how long something lasts or how much time has passed.
An hour is a way to measure time. It is equal to 60 minutes. Just like we count to 60 when we're counting minutes, one hour is like counting to 60 minutes all at once.
We use hours to tell the time on a clock. When the big hand on the clock goes all the way around in a circle, that's one hour. So, when the big hand is pointing at the 12, it's the start of a new hour.
We also use hours to talk about how long activities take. For example, if you play outside for 1 hour, that's the same as playing for 60 minutes. If a TV show is on for 1 hour, that means it lasts for 60 minutes.
Let's practice using hours! Try looking at a clock and figuring out what hour it is. You can also try timing activities to see how many hours or minutes they take. For example, see how long it takes to eat breakfast or play a game.
I hope you have fun learning about hours! Remember, an hour is a way to measure time, and it's equal to 60 minutes.
Keep practicing and you'll become an expert at understanding hours!
Good luck!
